Goldy-looking blanket was born following a residency at Dance Base in Edinburgh in February 2025 where I was working in collaboration with sound artist and composer Nicolette Macleod. At the time I was exploring movement underneath and in contact with a large dark green tarpaulin. I decided to swap the tarp for a gold-coloured space blanket and discovered something very abstract, with its own light and sound, reflecting back the light and sounds around it, but also something completely ‘other’. By exploring Goldy as a form of alter-ego, I’d like to surprise people and captivate their attention but also give them space to form their own interpretations about what they are experiencing. I want to explore how this abstract idea can offer people the opportunity for their own subconscious thoughts and feelings to bubble to the surface and perhaps for Goldy to reflect back to them whatever is on their mind.
